Humberto A. Leal

October 9, 1941 — December 19, 2020

Rhome, formerly of Decatur ~ Humberto A. Leal, 79, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, December 19, 2020.

As a native of Monterrey, Mexico, “Beto” was easily recognized for his sharp appearance, western hat, and fine boots. He had a great smile and an even greater heart, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.  He had an incredible work ethic and at the age of 19, after his father’s passing, he became the sole provider for his mother and seven siblings. He took immense pride and honor in serving them well. In 1970, he married the love of his life, Lydia, and had four children who were proudly raised in both countries and cultures. They were married for 49 years and after her passing in 2018, his devotion continued, and he would visit her weekly with fresh flowers. He retired at the age of 76. Throughout his life in Mexico and here in Texas, he forged many friendships in and outside of work.

Sundays were for family and football. He loved the Cowboys, the Longhorns, and the outdoors. One of the many joys was fishing with the grandkids and keeping up with their activities near and far. He loved to travel, capture memories using his cell phone, and relished a strong cup of coffee with pan dulce.

His wife, parents, three brothers, one son, and one grandson preceded him in death. Those left behind to cherish his memory are daughters, Fabiola (Jesus) Valdez of Rhome, Xochitl (Bradley) Czechowicz of Haslet; son, Humberto (Carmen) of Denton, and daughter-in-law, Delia (Adrian) Leal of Donna; grandchildren, Brandon and Greyson Valdez, Lauren and Ariane Czechowicz, Sabrina and Kayla Leal, Coraima, Eleno, Elian, and Angel Leal; siblings, Leticia, Blanca, and Hector of Mexico, and Eleno of Azle, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Deacon Art Casias will officiate. Honorary pallbearers include Humberto Leal, Brandon Valdez, Greyson Valdez, Eleno Leal, Elian Leal, and Angel Leal.

A private graveside service will be held. The family wishes to express with gratitude the outpouring of support and love for Beto, and you may visit and sign the register book at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur, from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, December 22.
