Dallas - J. Phillip Mote, 69, Owner of Mote Resources died suddenly on Friday, January 10, 2014 at his home in Addison.
Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers include Derry Dodson, Wayne Boggs, Alex McCutchin, Chris CdeBaca, J.T. Skarda, Josh Vega, and two Honorary Pallbearers, Gene McCutchin and Weldon Burton.
Phil was born June 15, 1944 in Decatur, Texas to Hiram Moran and Doris (Dodson) Mote. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1962 and attended Texas Tech University. He married Juanita Connor in 1976. Phil opened Mote Resources Inc. a small oil and gas company established in 1977. He moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico in 1984 where he became passionately involved in thoroughbred horse racing. While in Ruidoso he served on the Board of Directors of Ruidoso State Bank as well as the Alto Country Club and served as President of the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack. His love for horses eventually led him to Lexington, Kentucky where he was the proud owner of many winning thoroughbreds. He returned to Dallas in 2011 to enjoy his retirement.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his 2 daughters, Melanie Mote and Meredith Mote-Blackmon of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son, Stephen Mote and wife Amy of North Carolina; 9 grandchildren, Lauren Lynn, Layton, Kailynn, Presley, Noah, Matthew, John, James, and Jonathan; special friend, Sharon Davis; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robert Mote, and a brother, Robert Mote.
