Jackie L. Read

Boyd~ Jackie L. Read, 89, went to be with our Lord on Monday, February 14, 2022 in Bridgeport.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2022 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd with burial in Boyd Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are to include, Dayne Read, Grant Read, Alonzo Secrett, Rocky Bransom, Lee Nelson, Steve Garrett, Gene La Moine Garrett, Kenneth Williams, and Jackie Bob Williams.

Jackie was born on November 13, 1932 in Boyd, Texas to Jack R. and Maggie V. (Finney) Read. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janice Bridges on July 13, 1953 in Boyd, and they had 65 wonderful years of memories until her passing in October of 2018. Jackie was a veteran and served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Other than his time in the service he was a lifelong resident of Boyd where he owned and operated Read and Bridges Grocery Store for many years. He loved his family, friends, his community and neighbors and often showed them just how much by offering gifts of his hard work from his garden. He will be missed dearly by all those that knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice; his sisters, Teenie Ray Williams, Ara Faye Arrington, and Shirley Ann Garrett.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters, Cindy Read of Arlington, and Gwende Ruth of Boyd; his son, Jackie Read and wife Delisa of Ft. Worth; his grandchildren, Nicky Maxey Legagneur and husband Michael of New York, Dayne Read and Grant Read of Ft. Worth; his great-grandchildren, Alonzo, Jeremiah, Dominique, and Maxey; numerous extended family members and a host of friends and neighbors.
