James A. "Jim" Richards

Decatur ~ James A. Richards, 83, went to be with our Lord Friday, December 15th, 2023.

Visitation is 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, December 18th, 2023 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Jim was born October 11, 1940 to Carl Allen and Ruby Richards (Hixon) in San Antonio, Texas. He was united in marriage August 31st, 1963 to Barbara Jean Barbour in Tulia, Texas. Jim was a retired rancher after many years as a dairyman. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to many who will dearly miss him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruby Richards; his adoptive parents, James and Ethel Cox; and his brother, Tommy Richards.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of over 60 years, Jean Richards of Decatur; his son, Jason Richards and wife Dianne of Decatur; daughters, Jennifer Griffeth and husband Monty of Aransas Pass, and Jamie Cowdrey and husband Cary of Decatur; 5 grandchildren, Collin and wife Marlee, Graham, Caraline, Hannah & husband Nick, and Parker; 5 great-grandchildren, Braxton, Emily, Evelyn, Eliza, and Finleigh; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; extended family members and a host of friends.
