Decatur ~ James Gordon Cates, 89, a retired inspector, went to be with our Lord Sunday, June 22, 2014 in Decatur.
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June, 24, 2014 at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. There will be no set visitation.
Rev. Brian Bosworth will officiate. Pallbearers include Bob Boland, Joe Lambert, Ronnie Walker, Larry Avant, Joseph Greene and Wayne Stone.
James was born on June 15, 1925 in Decatur, Texas to Joe C. and Emma Jane (White) Cates. He was united in marriage to Laura Marie Dutile on August 17, 1959 in Decatur. James retired from General Dynamics after 40 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Decatur. James served his country in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Laura Cates of Decatur; his son, Joe Greene of Decatur; 2 grandsons; and a host of friends.
