Slidell: James Roy Gatlin, 62, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Decatur.

Funeral service is 2:30 p.m. Thursday, October 22nd at First Baptist Church in Slidell with Reverend Bobby Cates officiating. Interment will follow service at Slidell Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Leslie Allen, Brian Allen, Terry Carrico, Trey Vanderhule, Brett Stidham, Brad Robertson, Chad Skelton and Joseph Gatlin.

James was born June 25, 1947 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to James Richard and Hazel (Bacon) Gatlin. He married Lois Gail Stidham on August 28, 1965 in Wichita Falls.

James retired from the UAW/Chrysler Parts Distribution Depot in Carrollton, Texas. He served in the National Guard and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Slidell.

James was a great husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid golfer and loved time on the course with family and friends. James served in the National Guard and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Slidell.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years Lois Gatlin of Slidell; son, James Lee Gatlin and wife, Tonya of Greenwood; son-in-law, Terry Carico of Slidell; four granddaughters, Jennifer Shumate and husband Josh of Sanger, Brenda Gayl Gatlin of Slidell, Candice Gatlin, Crissie Gatlin and Gerald Dyer of Greenwood; four great granddaughters, Brooke and Emily Rudder, Eden Shumate, Addison Nichole Dyer; three sisters, LaVerne Halsted and husband, Ron of Grand Prairie, Helen Cregger and husband David of Max Meadows, Virginia, Darla Kubat and husband, Mitch of Lakeside, Arizona, brother, Eugene Gatlin and wife Ann of Bridgeport; half-sister, Viola McCalip of Temple, Oklahoma; brother and sister-in-laws, Lee Stidham and wife, Phyllis of Anadarko, Oklahoma, Edward Stidham and wife, Dorithy of Austin; and Beatrice Skelton and husband Bo of Anadarko, Oklahoma; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

James is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kammie Jo Carico; brother, Edward Gatlin; half-brother, Willard Gatlin; and half-sister, Wanda Waldrop.
