James “Darrell” Green (of Rhome, TX) went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Darrell was born September 13, 1936 in Gladewater, TX to Virgil and Julia (Hewitt) Green. In the 1940’s, the family moved to Rhome, TX. He attended Rhome Elementary school, where he met his future bride, Lynda Knox, and he graduated from Northwest High School in 1955. He and Lynda were married October 22, 1955 and celebrated their 68th anniversary last fall. They raised 4 children and their family has now grown to 40 members with more anticipated.
Darrell owned Green Bros Phillips 66 service stations in Rhome and Decatur with his twin brother Harrell. He also worked for General Dynamics, the railroad, and J6. He retired from Bell Helicopter after 34 years as a jig and fixture builder.
He and his family were very close and spent many happy times camping, water skiing, coaching his children’s sports, building and remodeling, and serving his community through his church. The family appreciated his ability to build and fix anything. Darrell was a life-long member of Rhome Church of Christ where he served as a deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Julia Green, his sisters Juanita (Green) LeFors, Geneva (Green) Cordova, Shirley (Green) Dunaway, and his twin brother Harrell Green.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Lynda Faye (Knox) Green; son, Doyle Green and wife Penni of Decatur, TX; daughter, Judy (Green) Copp and husband Kyle of Justin, TX; son, James Darrell Green, Jr (Jimmy) and wife Staci of Longview, TX; and son, Jeff Green and wife Missy of Azle, TX; grandson Eric Green; granddaughter Rashell Garcia and husband Pete; granddaughter Krystal Davis and husband Alan; granddaughter Kelly Azbell and husband Chance; granddaughter Taylor Westbrook and husband Kyle; granddaughter Jamie Petty and husband Jack; granddaughter Julia Utterback and husband John; granddaughter Winnie Lowery and husband Christian; and granddaughter Jalyn Green; great grandchildren Lily, Alivia, Ella, Chloe and Titus Garcia; Jackson, Jazlyn and Jayden Miller; Kolt and Knox Davis; Jase and Jodi Petty; Owen Westbrook; and Glover Utterback.
Roy Deaver will officiate. Pallbearers include Eric Green, Pete Garcia, Alan Davis, Chance Azbell, Kyle Westbrook, Jack Petty, John Utterback, and Christian Lowery.
Funeral is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Rhome Church of Christ with burial at Aurora Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
