James Smith Isom

Bridgeport ~ James Smith Isom, 91, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, October 12, 2021 in Bridgeport.

Graveside service is 11 AM Saturday at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 PM Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Dr. Craig Erb will officiate.

James was born on September 29, 1930 to Dewey Spurgeon and Mabel (Smith) Isom in Como, Texas. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Hicks on January 9, 1953 in Como. James retired from Mitchell Energy as a production superintendent and rancher. He was a member at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport. James proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by 2 children, Donna Jean Isom and Kenneth “Kenny” Isom; and 2 brothers John Charles Isom and Kenneth Phil Isom.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Marjorie Isom; 2 sons, Larry Isom and Terri of Bridgeport, and Dewey Isom and wife Cheryl of Aledo; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Dewena Crowell of Rockwall; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
