James Edward "Jim" Luttrell

Decatur ~ James Edward "Jim" Luttrell, 86, of Decatur went to be with his Lord Wednesday, September 2, 2020 in Decatur, Texas.

A private graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. There is no set family visitation.

Jim was born December 28, 1933 to Raymond and Mattie Ruth (Hart) Luttrell in Braxton, Mississippi. He graduated from Mt. Olive High School in Mt. Olive, Mississippi on April 21, 1952. He worked at a service station until June of 1952, then joined the United States Air Force. He spent the next 20 years serving his country until his retirement on June 30, 1972. After his departure from the Air Force, he began working for the City of Decatur as a Street Supervisor, where he spent the next 21 years until his second retirement.

Jim married Grace Cawthon on January 28, 1956. They were married for 45 years until her passing in February of 2001.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Jimmy D. Luttrell and wife Myra of Decatur, and Winford Hammonds and wife Linda of Decatur; daughter, Dena Quested and husband Harley of Fort Worth; 6 grandchildren, Melissa, Sheila, Chris, Jodi, Jacob, and Brandy; 6 great grandchildren, Rebekah, Angela, Ashlie, Alexis, Abigail, and Courtlin; 7 great-great grandchildren, Megan, Isabelle, Annie, Zoey, Nevaeh, Hunter, and Jace; numerous extended family, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister, Sybil, and a brother, Tommy.

Family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Solaris Hospice.
