James Cornelius Richards, Sr.

Decatur ~ James Cornelius Richards, Sr., 89, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

Funeral is 2:00 pm Monday, December 27, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 pm Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Rev. Donny Haywood will officiate. Pallbearers include Kliff Black, Pat McCurdy, Wayne Trachta, Yates McCurdy, Cole McCurdy and Nicholas Trachta. Honorary pallbearers will be Shay Collins, Nathan Strange, Rocky Prestifilippo, Walker Sinex, and Reid Zambardino.

Jim was born November 30, 1932 to Harold and Sue Reagan (Cox) Richards in San Marcos, Texas. He was united in marriage June 7, 1952 to Catherine Elaine Overall in Round Rock, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.B.A. in accounting. Jim worked as a Certified Public Accountant and later started his company James Richards Associates. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Catherine Elaine Richards; his son, James C. “Jimmy” Richards, Jr.; his brothers, Harold Richards and BC Richards; his sisters, Catherine Beasley, Barbara Perkins, Dorothy Hutchison, and Virginia Ols0n.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters, Molly Black and husband Kliff of Granbury, Beth McCurdy and husband Pat of Decatur, Gay Trachta and husband Wayne of Decatur; his grandchildren, Jennifer Collins and husband Shay, Stephanie Strange and husband Nathan, Yates McCurdy and wife Meagan, Lauren Prestifilippo and husband Rocky, Cole McCurdy and wife Chelsea, Reagan Trachta, Kendall Trachta, Nicholas Trachta and fiance Brynn Sutherland, and Cameron Sinex and husband Walker; his great-grandchildren, Zane Collins, Emma Collins, Stokes McCurdy, Leo Prestifilippo, Andie McCurdy, and Emory Sinex; extended family members, and a host of friends.
