James was born on October 15, 1930 to James and Thelma (Franklin) Williams in West Palm, Florida. He married Doris Lorene Norman on January 6, 1953 in Cairo, Georgia. James was a dedicated employee and driver for Greyhound Bus Lines for over 34 years and he served his country in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Doris Williams of Rhome; his sons, James Walter Williams of Tallahassee, Florida, Danny Carroll Williams of Rhome and Gregory Alan Williams of Florida; his brother, John Williams and wife Roberta of Cairo, Georgia; other family members and a host of friends.
