Jan was born on June 4, 1944 to William Vaughn, and Frances Marie (Gordon) Gray in Hurst, Texas. She was united in marriage to Joseph Glen Cartwright in June of 1994 in Grapevine, Texas. She enjoyed making arts and crafts for her family and friends.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are, her husband, Joseph Cartwright of Boyd; her son, Chris Kinnaird and wife Laura of Denton, Scott Kinnaird and wife Jamie of Omaha, Nebraska, and Robby Cartwright and wife Sara of Decatur; her daughter, Christy Cartwright of Roanoke; and 10 grandchildren; extended family and a host of friends.
