Memorial service is 11 a.m. Friday, May 22nd at Sycamore Baptist Church with Reverend Johnny Irish and Brother Scott Gray officiating.
Jean was born July 26, 1912 to John and Mary Ann (Riggs) Desmond in Chicago, Illinois. Jean led a life that varied from a swimsuit model in Miami to a welder for Lockheed in Los Angeles during WWII.
She married Julian Edward Gibbon on September 27, 1940 in Reno, Nevada, and moved to Decatur in 1946. She loved to travel, the arts and ballet. She was a member of the Eastern Star and attended Sycamore Baptist Church.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her son, John Gibbon and wife, Harriet of Decatur; daughter, Dee Covington of Hurst; grandchildren, Cari Covington Tillery, Will Covington, Jody Gibbon Slaten and John Gibbon, Jr.; great grandchildren, Josh and Levi Covington, Sarah, Amy and Hannah Tillery and Katie Anne Slaten; stepgrandchildren, Chris Funk, Carmen Goodson, Monica Bernard; step great grandchildren, Claire, Carson, Sydney, Addisyn, Grey and Journey.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers and sisters.
