Jerry Wayne Gayler

Alvord ~ Jerry Wayne Gayler, 80, went to be with his Lord Saturday, August 20, 2016 in Bridgeport, Texas.

Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Alvord Church of Christ with burial in Perryman Cemetery in Forestburg. Bro. Chester Cullum will officiate. Family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Pallbearers include Rob Covington, Ricky Covington, Davey Covington, Gary Covington, Chris Covington, Keith Kelton, Gary Kelton, and Mike Hatfield.

Jerry was born September 27, 1935 to Robert E. Lee and Elvena (Harrison) Gayler in Dallas, Texas. He married Annette Covington on June 28, 1954 in Rockwall, Texas. They were married 58 years until her passing in 2012. He married Linda Bishop on November 9, 2014 in Alvord, Texas. Jerry retired from General Motors where he was also a UAW Union Representative.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Bishop Gayler of Alvord; his daughter, Sherri Hartfield of Alvord; 4 grandsons, Jason Starr Gayler and wife Jamie of Alvord, Preston Hartfield and wife Rebekah of Tryon, Oklahoma, Bradley "Bubba" Hartfield and wife Anne of Grand Prairie, and Trevor Hartfield of Denton; grand daughter, Heather Gayler Jack and husband Justin of Decatur; step daughter, Jennifer Bishop Nations of Oregon; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; his sisters, Bobbie Johnson of Keller, Anjie Hatfield and husband Bill of Lindale; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Annette Gayler; and son, Tony Gayler.
