Jessie Jake Monroe Jr., 88, passed away at his home in Forestburg, Texas surrounded by his family Thursday, January 10, 2019.
Graveside service is 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2019, at New Harp Cemetery in Forestburg. Family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur. Danny Russell and Doyle Wade will officiate.
Jessie was born on November 29, 1930, to Jessie Jake Sr. and Bessie Pearl (Lowrey) Monroe in Alvord, Texas. He graduated from Forestburg School in 1948. Jessie also attended Decatur Baptist College. He married the love of his life Wanda Johnson on January 23, 1954, they had 4 daughters. They enjoyed traveling, ranching, gardening, and playing dominoes as well spending time with family. Jessie was a veteran of the Korean War and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the Bowie VFW. Jessie retired from General Motors after 30 years and also was a rancher. He attended Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Jake and Bessie Monroe; his sisters Bula Mae Berry, Geneva White, Louise Howard, and Elsie Sampler.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Wanda Monroe of Forestburg; his daughters, Tana May and husband Eddie of Forestburg, Cindy Parker of Forestburg, Janet Rhodes and husband William of Forestburg, Jacqueline Duffley and husband Paul of Alvord; his granddaughters, Tanya Selder and husband Barry, Trish Glidewell and husband Larry of Forestburg, Alecia Parker of Lewisville, Amber Parker of Dallas; his great granddaughters, Molly Metcalf of Forestburg, Megan Metcalf of Forestburg; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
