Funeral service is 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 21st at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bill Cleveland officiating. Interment: Paradise Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Olan Halbert, L. W. Vanhuss, Kenneth Kelly, L. G. Mantooth, Greg Reams, and Doyle Strain.
Jim was born July 20, 1942 in Jacksonville, Texas to Tom Lewis and Sarah Ruth Stephens Slaton. He married Rosemary Burk on September 3, 1994 in Paradise. Jim was employed by Anheuser-Busch.
Jim was a member of the National Old Timers Rodeo Association, a Gold Card/life time member of PRCA, and Four State Rodeo Association.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Rosemary Slaton of Paradise; two sons, Sam Slaton and wife, Lisa of Canton and Eddie Slaton and wife, Toni of Watagua; daughter, Shereed Jerald Cooksey of Watauga; two stepsons, Todd Hodges and wife, Robyn of Decatur and Truitt Hodges and wife, Linda of Alvord; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Lauren, Trey, Jason, Aaron, Jack, Coriana, Alex and Jake; great grandchildren, Dominic and Jacob; and brother, Tom Lewis, Jr. of Midlothian.
