Jimmie Joe Smith

Azle – Jimmie Joe Smith, 87,  went to be with our Lord, Friday, March 20, 2020 at his home in Azle.

Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial in Chico Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Reverend Larry Potts will officiate.  Pallbearers include Justin Samsill, Jeremy Samsill, Jacob Phinney, Dustyn Potter, Byron Wester, and Greg St. John.

Jimmie was born November 3, 1932 to Otho “OC” and Mary (Read) Smith in Paradise, Texas.  He was united in marriage to Peggy Wester on October 16, 1964 in Chico, Texas. Jimmie graduated Bridgeport High School, was a Baptist, and was a building maintenance supervisor for the City of Ft Worth until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Bruce and Clara Wester; and 2 grandsons, Joey and Lukas Friend.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Peggy Smith; his son, Jim Smith and wife Sheri of Springtown; 3 daughters, Leisa Samsill and husband Tim of Brookesmith, Jolynda York and husband Denny of Azle, and Karan Walti and husband David of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; 7 grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy, Shayna, Madison, Brookelyn, Avery and Katie; 7 great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Skylar, Jackson, Kynleigh, Makenzi, Ezekiel, and Haylie; his brother, Willie Smith of Ft Worth; 2 sisters, Carolyn St. John and husband Dan of Bridgeport, and Ernestine Myers and husband Don of North Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
