Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Cottondale with Charles Pugh and David Webb officiating. Interment will be at Cottondale Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 4th at the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Joel was born on June 22, 1940 in Wellington, Texas, to Clarence A. and Flora Katherine (Cherry) Dennis. He married Benita Irene Smith on March 20, 1964, in Fort Worth, Texas. Joel lived most of his life in the Fort Worth and Springtown-Cottondale area and retired from Lockheed-Martin in 2000. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cottondale.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Benita Dennis; sons, Jay Dennis and wife, Shawn, Mike Dennis; daughter, D'Ann Webb and husband, David; 4 grandchildren; brother, Robert Dennis and dear friends, Larry and Wendy Harrell.
The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
