John Harlin Caraway

Bowie ~ John Harlin Caraway, 82, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, April 12, 2023 in Decatur.

Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at Jim Ned Cemetery.  Family will receive friends 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Melvin Castleberry will officiate. Pallbearers are to include Casey Caraway, Cody Caraway, Austin Poole, Tim Gilbert, J.W. Gilbert, and Frank Good.

John was born on January 8, 1941 to W.E. “Pete” and Kate (Warren) Caraway in Bridgeport. He retired from the oilfield as a truck driver. John enjoyed fishing or playing a friendly game of cornhole any chance he could. John proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and a friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Jean O’Dell, Helen Russell, and Wanda Snow; and his brother, Earl Caraway.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are 2 sons, John D. Caraway of Odessa and Lynn Caraway of Revere, Massachusetts; his daughter, Deanna Poole and husband Gregg of Decatur; 5 grandchildren, Casey, Cody, and Constance Caraway, Katelynn Chancellor, and Austin Poole; 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
