Decatur: John Edwards, 87, went to be with our Lord on Friday, September 9, 2011 in Decatur.
Funeral service is 1 p.m. Monday, September 12th at the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Lane officiating. Interment will follow service in Vashti Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:50-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbeares include Troy Dobyns, David Kollman, Donnie Hancock, Paul Lloyd, Gerrit Haynes and Kent Anderson.
John was born May 1, 1924 in Tridad, Colorado to John Liberty and Othella (Humphries) Edwards. He married Emma Elizabeth Lane on September 17, 1949 in Montague, Texas. John was a retired loan officer for the United States Department of Agriculture. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the First Christian Church.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth Edwards; sons, Dennis F. Edwards and wife Charla of Decatur and John K. Edwards of Lake Dallas; granddaughters, Mandi Anderson and husband Kent of Lake Dallas and Lindsi Haynes and husband Gerrit of Springtown; great-granddaughter, Karley Anderson of Lake Dallas.
John is preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Sue Edwards; three brothers, Horace, George and Jimmie Edwards; two sisters, Violet Echols and Marjorie Stennett.
