The Lord called John Douglas Hesteande, 54, of Slidell, home on Saturday, January 16, 2021.

Funeral Service is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the funeral home.

John was born on June 8th, 1966 to Lawrence and Bobbie Hesteande in Decatur, Texas, and was raised in Slidell.  John enjoyed anything outdoors, life, and helping others.  He was an avid hunter and he was able to catch fish wherever he was.

John served our country and was a veteran of the US Army.

Those that knew John, know that he loved to live off the land.  If he was awake, he could be found in his garden, tending to his birds, or raising pigs.  John had a knack for making things with his hands, and was loved for the gifts that he would make for others.

John married the love of his life, Shawna Strohl on October 1, 1986.  Together they led a beautiful life and raised their four children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Penny Shurbet; and his brother, Russell Hesteande.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children, his sons Ryan Hesteande and wife Ashlee of Alvord,  Heath Hesteande  and wife Darci of Purcell, OK, and Landon Hesteande; his daughter Magan Hesteande and fiancée, Chance Allmand of Marietta, Oklahoma; his sisters, Brenda Walker of Sunset, Ruth Swanson and husband DC Langston of Whitesboro, Cathy Sides and husband Jackie of Chico, Amy Adams and husband Mark of Denton, Jill Richards and husband Michael of Slidell; his granddaughters, Saylor and Oaklee; his in-laws,  Richard and LaNelda Strohl of Bowie;   and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
