John Coley Holmes, Jr., 66, a businessman and cattle rancher, of Decatur went to be with our Lord Friday, January 16, 2009 in Dallas after his battle with cancer.
Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Decatur with Reverend Ken May officiating. Interment will follow service at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Calvin Buchanan, Kyle Stephens, Pat McCurdy, Brent Williams, Kenny Bryan, Butch Bryan, Mike Overton and James Stutt.
Honorary pallbearers were Carl Fennell, Bert Little, Dewayne McCormick, Thomas Kemp, Jerry Mara, Mike McGraw, Travis Vinzant and Frank Perrin.
John Coley was born September 20, 1942 in Decatur, Texas to John Coley and Ann Olivia Johnson Holmes, Sr. He was owner of Holmes Auto for 46 years. Coley married Vickie Diane Cook March 25, 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In November of 1944, W.H. Holmes and Coley Holmes, Sr. opened their auto supply store in Bowie which later moved to Decatur. Coley started working in the store by the time he was 10 years old. After graduating from Decatur High School, he attended and graduated from Texas Tech University with a Master
