New Fairview ~ Johnny Ray McDowell, 81, a retired truck driver from New Fairview went to be with his Lord on Monday, May 26, 2014 in Decatur, Texas.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at New Fairview Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Johnny was born February 3, 1933 to Johnny Bill and Ella Mae (Palmer) McDowell in Dimmitt, Texas. He married Marthella Manley on June 21, 1976 in Decatur, Texas. He served his country in the United States Air Force and has been a member of Fairview Baptist Church since 1972.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 37 years, Marthella McDowell of New Fairview; 3 daughters, Cindy Whitaker and husband Brad of Fort Worth, Pam Dustman of Athens, and Denise Williams and husband Scott of Fort Worth; 4 grandchildren, Cheyne George, Madison Taylor, Brittany Dustman, and Jesse Williams; 6 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Jerry Nolan and husband Charlie and Florene Sanders and husband Elden, Mary Kate Lane and husband Ed, and Cindy Harper and husband John; brother, Richard McDowell and wife Cindy of Tulia; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rodney Williams; daughter, Carmen Wells; and 2 brothers, Kenneth and Gene McDowell.
