Graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 8th at Bolivar Cemetery in Denton County with Rev. Chris Brown officiating.
Pallbearers included Charles Harris, Ron Webb, Donny Dickenson, Clayton Woodruff, Steve Harden and John Dibley. Honorary pallbearer is Robert Stevens.
Joe was born November 10, 1936 in Bolivar, Texas to Joseph Lamar and Irene (Salmon) Whitehead. He attended Dallas Baptist College and was owner of Whitehead's T.V. Repair during the 1970's. He played piano at Greenwood Baptist Church during the 1960's and for Bell Baptist during the 1970's.
Joe's life after retirement was his music and his dogs, Jesse, Lady and Bubba. His love for music inspired him to write a great many gospel and country songs. Joe spent most of his time in his studio at his keyboard writing songs or recording songs for other musicians. The music played for his service were songs written and recorded by Joe.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his sister, Frances Long of Colleyville; two nieces, Lynette Childers and husband Dan of Oklahoma City and Vicki Curtis and husband Robert of Colleyville; four great-nieces; three great nephews; a host of friends; and his Lady Angels on Earth, Mary Harris, Betty Altman and Sherry Dickenson.
Joe will be greatly missed.
