Joyce Simmons Polk, 71, died May 30, 2020. She was born March 7, 1949 in Decatur, Texas, the daughter of Joe P. Simmons, Jr. and Zoe Evelyn (Walker) Simmons.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in her honor 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Joyce graduated from W.E. Boswell High School, Class of 1967. She married Steven Lee Polk. After Steve’s hitch in the Navy they settled in Ft. Worth, Texas, then later in Hurst, Texas where they raised their two sons, Joey and Brian. Later, Joyce worked at Chase bank until she retired. After Steve’s death in 2010, she continued to live in Haltom City, Texas till she moved to a country home in Marshall, Arkansas. She attended church at Calvary Baptist Church in Timbo, Arkansas where she met and became engaged to Ronald Johnson.
Joyce loved to sew and design her own clothing. Gardening and yard work was one of her passions, as well as her love for animals. She always had a dog and a cat. She also enjoyed the eggs that her flock of chickens blessed her with. Living in Arkansas also allowed her to enjoy riding horses with her neighbor.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Zoe Simmons and husband, Steven Polk.
She is survived by her two sons, Joey Polk and fiancé Kim Lawson of Watauga, Texas and Brian Polk of Bedford, Texas; four grandchildren, Rachal Spruhan and husband Nate, Bailey Polk, Chandler Polk, and Madeline Polk; four great-grandchildren, Alice, Emma, Riott, and Max; fiancé, Ron Johnson, numerous extended family and a host friends.
