Juanita G. Hines February 7, 1938 – January 22, 2025
Juanita G. Hines, 86, of Glen Rose, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, seven days after suffering a stroke. Born on February 7, 1938, in Beckley, West Virginia, Juanita was a force of nature who left behind a lifetime of laughter, mischief, and memories for her family and friends to cherish. She will be remembered for her unforgettable quick wit that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Juanita was predeceased by her first husband, Gene Smith of Beckley, West Virginia, who shared 48 years of marriage and raised two children with her. After Gene’s passing, she married George Hines of Rhome, Texas. Together, they shared 12 adventure-filled years, traveling to 29 countries Between them, they probably wore out more luggage than most airports see in a year.
She was the last surviving daughter of ten siblings, a family as big as her personality. Her cherished brother, Andy Earehart, who lives in Beckley, West Virginia, is her sole surviving sibling. And while she’s no longer here, you can bet she’s still running the show at every heavenly family gathering. Juanita is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, who will undoubtedly keep telling her hilarious stories for years to come.
Her children, Cindy Sessler of Glen Rose, Texas, and Larry Smith and his wife Jean Smith of Beckley, West Virginia, all would agree there was never a dull moment with their mom.
Her grandchildren, their spouses, and children are: • Aaron Smith and his wife Lynn Smith, and their two children Adam Smith and Sofie Smith • Jonette Phegley and her husband Brian Phegley, and their three children Addison Phegley, West Phegley, and Chandler Phegley • Jelayne Sessler • J.D. Sessler.
A private graveside service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Aurora Cemetery, located at 507 Cemetery Rd., Aurora, Texas 76078. A celebration of her life (and probably a lot of laughs) will follow at a later date in Beckley, West Virginia.
Juanita’s superpower was making people laugh—usually at themselves, but always with love. She could turn a boring day into an unforgettable adventure and was known for her sharp one-liners that always brought joy and laughter. Her legacy is one of laughter, love, and living life unapologetically. So the next time you’re laughing until your sides hurt, raise a glass to Juanita. She’d appreciate that.
