BRIDGEPORT...J.W. "Bill" Reed, of Bridgeport went to be with his Lord Thursday, December 24, 2009 in Decatur, Texas at the age of 101 years, 11 months, and 7 days.
Funeral: 10:30 AM Monday at the Cates Street Church Of Christ in Bridgeport. Burial: Alvord Cemetery. Bro. Jim Taylor will officiate. Pallbearers: Jim Graham, Bob Houston, Richard Stothers, Ronnie Holt, Garrett Underwood, and Chris Tamplen.
Bill was born January 21, 1908 in the Hopewell Community in Wise County, the son of John William and Mary Elizabeth (Pinkerton) Reed. He married Clarice Opal (Madoozie) on December 24, 1931 in Decatur, Texas. They were married for 66 years until her passing in 1997.
Bill worked at General Dynamics and Bell Helicopter as an Aircraft Electrician, and he was also a Farmer. He was a member of the Cates Street Church of Christ from 1958 till 2009, where he served as a Deacon and an Elder.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal; brother, Lee Roy Reed; and sister, Ida Christine Nivens.
Those left to cherish his memory are: Son: Billy D. Reed and wife Eva of Irving; daughter: Sandra Kay Smith and husband (the golfer) A.Z. of Runaway Bay; 5 grandchildren: Melinda Thomasson and husband Todd of Allen, Tx., Laurie Davis and husband Tom of Alvord, Denice Prince, Angie Boyd and husband Darrell, Kristin Pierce; 7 great granddaughters; 3 great grandsons; several nieces and nephews.
