 LaQuita Elaine Nelon of North Richland Hills, Texas, 85, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

Funeral is 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd, Texas with burial at Boyd Cemetery. Family will receive friends for visitation 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024 at the funeral home.

Pastor Vinny Rincon will officiate. Pallbearers include grandsons Trent Killen, Brandon Killen, Bryce Bridges, Aaron Hammett, Cameron Hammett, and dear family friend Mayor Rodney Holmes.

 LaQuita (“Nawnaw,” as she was affectionately known to her grandchildren and others) was born on August 8, 1939 in Stephenville, Texas to Walter James and Lucy Fanning Brush. She was a resident of Boyd, Texas for most of her adult life and attended the Boyd Church of Christ. In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker, she worked in aircraft component assembly for a decade at General Dynamics before her retirement.

She enjoyed spending time with family, making peanut brittle, hosting holiday get-togethers, attending rodeos, listening to country music, watching old westerns, game shows, and Dallas Cowboys games, and on occasion trying her hand at the slots. She was a beloved resident of the Holiday Lane Estates assisted living community for the past two years and will be missed by residents and caregivers alike.

She is preceded in death by parents Walter and Lucy Brush, husband Arlen (Joe) Nelon, brothers William (WC), Dean, and Bobby Brush, and sisters LaBadie Sellers, Wyone Williams, and Nilda Faye Pitcox.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter Rhonda Bridges and husband Tom, daughter Teresa Killen and husband Russell, son Travis Hammett and wife Amanda, daughter Jolen Popp and husband Geoff; ten grandchildren, Ciera Kanagasabai and husband Vijay, Trent Killen, Trisha Killen, Brandon Killen, Bryce Bridges, Brianne Bridges, Aaron Hammett and wife Daniella, Cameron Hammett and wife Madelyn, Jacob Popp, and Jasmine Hammett and significant other Khutter Sanchez; three great-grandchildren, Presley, Ronin, and Shogun Kanagasabai; other relatives, and a host of friends.
