Graveside service is 10:15 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the DFW National Cemetery. Memorial service is 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.
Rev. Roy Spore, Rev. Johnny Irish, and Bill Liggett will officiate. Pallbearers include Leo Bell, Gene Bell, Sidney Brantly, Gary Liggett, Christopher Davis, and Robert Davis. Honorary pallbearers include Leo Liggett, Geary Washburn, Hugh McCarary, Don Kliwer, and Eric Carroll.
LaVaughn was born on June 27, 1922 to Buster and Ollie (Bell) Davis in Prospect, Texas. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. LaVaughn married Mary Elaine Suggs on March 22, 1963 in Abilene, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur.
LaVaughn was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ovella Davis; and his brother, Lavern Davis.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Elaine Davis of Decatur; his sons, Larry Davis and wife Linda of Tyler, Tony Davis of Austin, and Sam Davis and wife Nina of Leander; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; other family members and a host of friends.
