Laverne Elaine Brooks Wiley Green, 86, of Decatur, passed away February 14, 2020, In Decatur.
Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2020 at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico with the Rev. Elaine Bussey officiating. Burial will follow at Chico Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur.
Pallbearers are Scott Bowyer, Deroy Bennett, Jon Harris, Jeff Wiley, Eric Wiley, Blake Cooper, Hayden Bennett, Caleb Bennett, Reid Bowyer and Ryan Bowyer.
Laverne was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Chico to Charles Alton and Zona Mae (Dickenson) Brooks. She married Clyde Wendell Wiley on May 31, 1951, in Fort Worth. Together they owned Wiley Hardware and Supply in Chico. After retiring from the hardware store she worked for 14 years at Park Haven Healthcare and Trinity Assisted Living in Bridgeport. She was an activity/marketing director and manager of the assisted living center.
Laverne was a member of Morris Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she taught Sunday School, volunteered as youth director, served on the board and was active with the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Chico, Bridgeport and Runaway Bay Chambers of Commerce. She served the City of Chico as Mayor Pro-Tem for 10 years and also served on Chico’s City Council. Laverne enjoyed photography, dancing and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 39 years, Wendell Wiley; her brothers, Clarence Brooks and Cecil Brooks; and her sister, Lois Watson; her son-in-law, Larry Wilson.
Survivors include her son, Galen Wiley and wife, Claudine, of Bridgeport; daughters Carol Wilson of Nacogdoches and Sharon Cooper and husband, Scott, of Denton; grandchildren Kristi Bennett and husband, Deroy, Scott Bowyer, Jeff Wiley and wife, Michelle, Eric Wiley and wife, Angela, Kimberly Crawford and husband, Jake, Jon Harris and wife, Kirsten, Devon Cooper, Blake Cooper; great-grandchildren Hayden and Caleb Bennett, Bailey, Reid and Ryan Bowyer, Kira, Ella, Chase, Cady and Tessa Wiley, Kenley Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
