CHICO -- Lavonia Hawkins, 98, a retired Chico ISD first-grade teacher, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, in Decatur. Funeral: 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Chico. Burial: Chico Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorials: Lavonia Hawkins Scholarship Fund at First State Bank in Chico. She was president of the Study Club when the Chico Library was started and supported the renovation of the Brown Hotel for a civic center. Survivors: Nieces; nephews; and cousins.
