Lawanda Jean Baird

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 26th at the First Baptist Church of Alvord with Brother Kevin Moore officiating. Interment: Jonestown Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include Mack Thweatt, Mike Curran, Mike Cole, Larry Talley, Gaylynn Wheelis and Bobby Watts. Honorary pallbearers include Rex Frye, Jacky Rutledge, Ted Maxwell and Jerry Clement.

Lawanda was born January 12, 1940 in Tulia, Texas to Paul Artie and Mildred Josephine Chappell Reid. She married Jim R. Baird on September 2, 1961 in Tulia. Lawanda was secretary for the Alvord High School for 24 years. She was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Alvord.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Jim Baird of Alvord; two sons Paul Ray Baird and wife, Mona and Jason Baird both of Alvord; three grandchildren, Matthew Baird and wife, Kristen of Bowie, Brett and Whitney Baird both of Forestburg; two great grandchildren, Brayden and Bryce Baird of Bowie; one sister, Paula McWilliams of Snyder; one aunt, Joyce Gaston of Nocona; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
