DENTON -- Loyd R. Wood, 87, a retired rancher and teacher, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005 in Denton. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church Bridgeport with the Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Burial: Boonsville Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Wood was born August 19, 1918 in Mallard, TX to Nathan and Emma Thompson Wood. He gradusted from Bowie High School in 1936 and North Texas State Teachers College in 1941. Loyd served in the Foreign Ferry Command of the U.S. Airforce during WWII and then taught school and coached in Bowie following his military service. He married Willine Gadberry August 20, 1948 in Nocona and they moved to her fmily ranch in Wise County in 1949. Loyd was a U.S. Army and Airforce Veteran serving in WWII, he served as a former coach and teacher for Bowie Schools. He was a member of the Montague Masonic Lodge, a former board member of the Wise County Water District, a founding member of the Boonsville/Balsora Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. Survivors: Wife of 57 years, Willine Wood of Denton; son, Paul Wood and wife, Debra of Boonsville; grandchildren, Jody, Andy and Megan Wood; brothers, Baker Wood and wife Evelyn of Ft. Worth; sisters, Hazel Frazier of Denton and Alma Porter and husband Walter of Madison, MS; sister-in-laws, Idell Campbell and Rexie Wood; and several nieces and nephews. His pallbearers will be Jody Paul Wood, Andrew loyd Wood, Mark Wood, Billy Wood, Doyle Frazier, and Jim Frazier.
