Memorial service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17th at Sycamore Baptist Church. Interment is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Grand Prairie with Rev. Casey Lewis officiating.
Marion was born on May 13, 1930 in Burkburnett, Texas to Onie J and Lorene (Creagle) Smith. He grew up in Munday and Wichita Falls, Texas. He was united in marriage to Merle Yoakum on November 25, 1948 in Wichita Falls. They moved to Decatur in 1984 and was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Marion served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict from 1954 to 1956. He retired from commercial construction in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Merle Sessumes of Decatur; 2 sons, Marion Lewis Sessumes, Jr. of Fort Worth, Mark Sessumes and wife Kia of Arlington; 3 grandchildren, Jeremy, Dalton, and Alaina Sessumes; 2 sisters, Kathleen Kinnibrugh of Burkburnett and Martha Fortune of Oklahoma City; 2 brothers, Norvill Sessumes and wife Mary Lou of Freemont, California and Michael Smith and wife Tonji of Alvarado; special niece, Nelda Sessumes Fernandez of Hayward, California; other family members and a host of friends.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary M. Walker of White Settlement, Texas.
