Decatur ~ Marvin Edd Oates, 86, went to be with our Lord Monday, August 5, 2019 in Decatur.
Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Pleasant Grove Cowboy Church in Decatur with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery #1. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Pastor Brandon Henderson will officiate. Pallbearers will include Gerald Oates, Chuck Oates, Vince Loucks, Michael Loucks, Phillip Nichols, and Jim Bob Little.
Marvin was born on January 11, 1933 to Glen Willard and Birdie Marie (Taylor) Oates, Sr. in Decatur, Texas. He was united in marriage to Catherine Lenora Wren on March 16, 1956 in Decatur. Marvin proudly served in the United States Army. He was member of Pleasant Grove Cowboy Church, a lifetime member of the AASP & RC, and a 3X World Champion Pony Express Rider. Marvin was a dairy farmer/owner for 25 years until 1978 when he started Oates Custom Farming and Baling. He passed on his knowledge and experience to his son and grandson to carry on the family business.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lisa D’Ann Oates; his brother, Melvin Oates; his sister, Emma Lee Loucks; and his brother in law, Boyd Loucks.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Cathy Oates of Decatur; his sons, Mark Oates and Kim Eisen of Decatur, and Scott Oates of Flower Mound; his grandchildren, Corbin Oates and his wife Samantha of Decatur, Sydney Oates, and Peyton Oates both of Flower Mound; his brother, Junior Oates and wife Kay of Decatur; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
