Max D. McDonald, 96, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, December 14, 2024 in Decatur, Texas
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Bethel Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Matt Gage will officiate. Pallbearers include John Rhine, Mark McDonald, Kevin McDonald, David Yarbrough, Joshua Rhine, and Nathan Yarbrough. Honorary Pallbearers include Andrew Yarbrough, Joseph Rhine, Ian McDonald, Jacob Rhine, Luke McDonald, and Cohen McDonald.
Max was born on July 29, 1928 in Alvord, Texas to John Patrick McDonald and Artie (Warner) McDonald. He was united in marriage December 29th, 1951 to Maxine (Rawle) they would have celebrated 73 years of marriage on December 29, 2024. Max was a loving and caring man who loved his family. All kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids loved coming to their house for Holidays and visits. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Decatur.
Max enjoyed making knives and was an accomplished metal worker. Max & Maxine enjoyed traveling around the country with family and the Holiday Rambler Camping Club. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in Korea during the Korean War. Max worked for the Texas Highway Department for 30 years as a mechanic, a job he truly enjoyed. He made many lifelong friends during this time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Artie McDonald; his sisters, June and Mary; his brothers, Robert, Terrell, Pat, George and Frank; son-in-law, David Rhine.
Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Maxine; daughter, Pam Rhine of Frisco; his son, Jim McDonald and wife Julie of Decatur; grandchildren, John Rhine and wife Julie of Frisco, Jennifer Yarbrough and husband David of Carrollton; Mark and Jessica McDonald of Melissa and Kevin McDonald of Northlake; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua, Nathan, Joseph, Ian, Jacob, Luke, Cohen, and Landry; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith Baptist Church of Decatur, or Cook’s Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth.
