Fort Worth: Melba Gene Slayton, 80, originally of Alvord, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, October 11, 2008 in Fort Worth.
Graveside service is 11 a.m. Thursday, October 16th, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur with Chaplin James Clinkscales officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Melba was born April 15, 1928 in Alvord, Texas to Daniel and Cora (Flowers) McWhirter. She married Randall Slayton on August 1, 1949 in Weatherford, Texas. Melba was a member of the Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Debbie Christian of Azle, Danette Slayton of Weatherford, Becky Galindo of Fort Worth; three sons, Randall, John and Shawn Slayton all of Fort Worth; brother, Danny McWhirter of Decatur; sister, Ruth Guinn of Fort Worth, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Melba is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
