Boyd ~ Melvin Eugene Bridges, 82, a farmer, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, March 17, 2011 in Corinth.
Funeral is 2 PM Sunday, March 20th at First Baptist Church in Cottondale with burial in Cottondale Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5-7 PM Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Rev. Charles Pugh and Rev. Eddie Milligan will officiate.
Pallbearers are Harold Remmele, Ben Remmele, Gene Remmele, Roger Gentry, Glenn Gentry, Donnie Erwin, and Jimmy Cox.
Melvin was born November 11, 1928 to Beulah Swinney in Arlington, Texas. He served his country in the US Navy. Melvin married Dorothy E. Tabner on October 4, 1949 in Decatur. He attended First Baptist Church of Cottondale where he was a charter member and deacon.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Bridges; his daughters, Rhonda Bennett of Bowie, Karen Jackson and husband Don of Bellevue; his grandchildren, Jeff Bennett and wife Monica, Chad Bennett and wife Chasity, Miranda Bennett, John Jackson and wife Kelly; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of friends.
