He was preceded in death by his daughter Judith Elaine Perkins, his brother Richard Perkins, and his sister Daisy Lucille Perkins. Survivors: Wife of 59 years Sallie Perkins; sons, Melvin E. Perkins and wife Linda of Boyd, Richard L. Perkins and wife Sue of Boyd; daughter, Joyce Barnett and husband, Martin of Carrollton; six grandchildren Kristy Benoit, Kathy Leonard, Shane Perkins, Chad Perkins, Trena Dickson, and Cory Perkins; nine great-grandchildren; brother Leo Lee Perkins of Boyd; several nieces and nephews.
