Melvin Dean Splawn

Hillsboro- Melvin Dean Splawn, 84 went to be with our Lord Friday February 24, 2023.

Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the New Beginnings International Church in Fort Worth with burial at Boyd Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mark Couch will officiate. Pallbearers are Jeffrey Splawn, Corey Splawn, Brandon Logan, Dustin Burgess, Al Dickerson, and Lynn McCain

Melvin was born August 24, 1938 in Decatur, Texas to Grover Cleveland and Hattie Beatrice (Flowers) Splawn.  Melvin grew up a preachers kid living in various small towns. His family moved to Pilot Point, Texas in 1951 and graduated from high school in 1956.

He was united in marriage April 20, 1957 to Jewel Webb in Pilot Point, Texas after pursing her while they worked in Ft. Worth at what was General Dynamics. He had never met Jewel even though she ran around with his cousins who lived in Decatur. They met the last of January 1957 in Fort Worth and married shortly there after. Their first son was born in August of 1958. A second son was born in March 1960. After being laid off from GD he went to Abilene and worked for GD Astronomics  on the Missile Sites. From there in February 1963 until his retiring in 2000. He was at Bell Helicopter working in the dispatching department as dispatcher, supervisor, and ended his career as the shop floor control analyst. He and Jewel lived in Haslet for 31 years raising their two sons. After retiring they moved to Hillsboro, Texas where he bought a few acres of land and called it The Lazy S Ponderosa. He loved to mow and stay active. He had a small business called Mel’s mowing service. He was an active Christian and worked in many churches as God led him. He was affiliated with Assembly of God and Non -Denominational Churches.

Melvin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; son Mike Splawn and grandson Ricky Splawn.

Those left behind to cherish his loving memory are his wife of 65 years, Jewel Splawn ; his son Marty Splawn and wife Pam; grandsons Jeffrey Splawn and wife Brittany and Corey Splawn;  granddaughters; Britteny Logan and husband Brandon, and Courtney Splawn; Sister, Wanda McCoy, Daughter in law  Jean Splawn ;  11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
