Melvin "Dodie" Daryl Sergent

Rhome ~ Melvin Daryl “Dodie” Sergent, 66, a welder, went to be with our Lord Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Decatur.

Visitation will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Hawkins Funeral Home chapel in Boyd.

Melvin was born on July 13, 1952 to Cisco and Ealey (Caudill) Sergent in Onedia, Kentucky. His life was filled with amazing adventures from traveling in his younger days to drinking coffee on the back porch watching the sun rise. He loved fishing with his family and telling tall tales even having his niece believing he was Elvis. He was an amazing man with a heart of gold.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James Sergent, Tommy Joe Sergent, Charles Sergent and Cisco Sergent Jr.; his sister, Jean Rushing.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Donya Sergent of Rhome; his son, Melvin Sergent Jr. of Fort Worth; his grandchildren, Donovon Sergent, Ethan Beadle, Ashton Phillip Beadle, Alexandria Sergent, Jonah Michael Sergent, Nathan Sergent, Bryce Sergent, Nicholas Sergent, Abigail Sergent, John Fowley and Nick Martinez who is in the Marines; his brothers, Johnny Ralph Sergent, and Eddie Paul Sargent; his sister, Carol Guidry; his nephews, Michael Guidry, Aaron Wanner, Logan Wanner and Jake Guidry; his nieces, Georgia Wanner and Shaunda Wanner; son-in-law, Seun Shonola; and a host of friends.
