Michael Ray Higgins

Decatur ~ Michael Ray Higgins, 71, went to be with our Lord Monday, May 29, 2023.

Funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Sweetwater Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Freida Higgins will officiate. Pallbearers include Aaron Bowers, Wesley Moorman, Randy Mayne, Chance Foster, Justin Sons, Robbie Hughes, and Jason Bird.

Michael was born April 23, 1952 to Raymond Lee and Anna Marie (Patiff) Higgins in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was united in marriage April 8, 1983 to Ida Fern Skidmore in Decatur, Texas. Michael attended and graduated Richland High School. He worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a machine operator for many years. Michael was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Lee Higgins; his step-son, Larry Skidmore; grandson, Austin Higgins and granddaughter Paeton Mallory.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Ida Higgins of Decatur; son, Jeremy Higgins and spouse Erica of Flower Mound; daughter, Jessica Bowers and husband Aaron of Round Rock; his step-daughter, Kendle Williams of Decatur; his mother, Anna Lassiter of Bedford; grandchildren, Aspen Higgins, Tevin Holt, Hannah and Paul Bowers; 3 brothers, Terry, Pat and Kelly Higgins; his sister, Susan Hohrine; extended family and a host of friends.
