Nelda Fay (Odom) Askey

January 8, 1934 — September 14, 2020

Nelda Fay Askey, 86, left Dalhart, Texas and went home to Heaven on Monday, September 14, 2020.  Viewing will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Horizon Funeral Home in Dalhart, Texas.  Viewing at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur, Texas will be Thursday, September 17, 2020 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Graveside will follow Friday, September 18, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. in Decatur, Texas at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Nelda Fay Odom was born Monday, January 8, 1934 to Irene (Brown) and Alfred Odom in Decatur, Texas.  Soon after Nelda graduated high school, she married Bob Askey and they began what would be a beautiful journey for 66 years.  They had one son, Paul Askey.  Nelda graduated from West Texas State University with her teaching degree and became a devoted teacher for 32 years, retiring from the Dalhart Independent School District.  She was a highly active member of Dalhart First Baptist Church and enjoyed being involved with WMU and making lasting relationships with so many ladies, she also mentored many young moms over the years and they loved and appreciated her guidance and support so much.  Nelda had a beautiful, sweet, quiet spirit and a love for Jesus that you could see in every smile and hug she gave.  She was a loving wife, mother, teacher, mentor and friend and we were all blessed to have her in our lives.

Nelda is survived by her husband, Bob Askey of Dalhart, TX, a son, Paul Askey of Decatur, TX and two sisters-in-law: Chris Odom of Hazlett, TX and Sylvia Odom of Austin, TX.

Nelda is preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother, Gordon Odom and her younger brother, Richard Odom.
