Decatur: Oneal Luther Springer, 88, formerly of Decatur, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 in Granbury, Texas.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at Sycamore Baptist Church with burial following in Sycamore Cemetery. The Reverend Scott Gray officiating.
Pallbearers include Gerald Springer, Jeff Alexander, Cory Alexander, Codey Cross, Trey Hale and Jacob Cornelison.
Born September 6, 1921 to Luther and Mary Effie Funderburk Springer in Moresville, Mississippi. Oneal married Ida Abaiy on December 31, 1945 in Tarry Town, New York. Oneal retired from General Dynamics after 42 years as an electronic inspector. After his retirement he helped restore airplanes for museums. He was a member of the VFW Post 8911, a member of Sycamore Baptist Church, and he believed in the Bible verse John 3:16.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are is wife of almost 64 years, Ida Springer; son, David Robert Springer and wife, JoAnn of Decatur; two daughters, Donna Lynn Alexander and husband, Lecil of Burlington, North Carolina, Karen Delaine Cross and husband, Randy of Decatur; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Oneal is preceeded in death by his son, Douglas Neal Springer.
