Weatherford ~ Patricia “Pat” Joyce Barnett, 76, a homemaker, Thursday, June 23, 2016 passed away late evening after a long battle with health issues.
Celebration of Life is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Decatur Church of Christ. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday August 12, 2016 at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home
Patricia was born on May 2, 1940 to James W. and Rosie Mae (Hammons) Ary in Sanger, Texas. She graduated from Denton High School in 1958. Patricia was united in marriage to Erwin King Barnett, Jr. on March 9, 1963 in Gainesville, Texas.
While Patricia assisted throughout her life in her family’s businesses in various positions, her true calling was one of a consummate wife, mother and homemaker. As a mother of two active girls, she volunteered freely at their schools, working with Special Needs children and assisting teachers/coaches at various fundraising/field trips, sporting events and activities in any way she could. She was a member of the Slidell Young Homemakers and became an active 4-H leader in Wise County.
In her later years, she became quite the gardener. People would often stop to talk about or photograph her flowerbeds. Patricia was especially proud of her roses that she would lovingly care for through the hot Texas summers. She was always eager to offer any tips for successful blooms, like, “Don’t throw away that banana peel or egg shells! Dig them in to the soil, my roses just love the potassium!”
Patricia had an unwavering faith in God. Baptized in 1954 at the Pearl Street Church of Christ in Denton, she became very involved with churches in Denton, Aubrey, Greenwood, Decatur, Springtown, and Weatherford, teaching Sunday school and VBS, visiting members in hospital or nursing homes and assisting in numerous fundraising events, collecting goods for the local community and Africa. When a member of the congregation or community was ill or passed, she was one of the first to ask if she could do anything for the family. She was always willing to give her time to those in need.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, King Barnett; her parents, Rosie Mae Gable and James W. Ary; and her brothers, Teddy Lane Ary and James Robert Ary.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kathy Spriggs and husband Neil of Kinburn, Ontario, Canada, and Sandra Miller and husband Chris of Weatherford; her brother, Eddie Ary and wife Laura of Denton, her sister-in-law, Camille Underwood of Lake Charles, Louisiana; her grandchildren, Brian Shannon of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Kristian and Alastair Spriggs of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and Andrew and Ashley Musick of Weatherford; many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends will also miss her.
The family would like to extend their greatest gratitude to the nurses, aides and staff at the Willow Park Rehabilitation and Care Center and Hospice Plus of Weatherford for their care, compassion and support.
