Phyllis was born October, 1, 1933 to Alexander and Terry Platt in New York City. She graduated from Bronx High School of Science and obtained her Master Degree in Communication from Hunter College. She married Philip Herskowitz May 28, 1977 in New York, NY. After moving to Bedford in 1979, Phyllis was employed by the Tandy Corporation, McCormick and Dodge and the Arthur Anderson Corporation. Prior to her retirement, she operated a quality assurance company.
Upon moving to Chico in 1989, Phyllis became involved in civic endeavors and won a grant from TX DOT to renovate the Chico Town Square. She served as the past President of the Chico Library Board of Directors and was active with the Texas State Library and Archive Commission for a number of years until her illness precluded continuing in those capacities.
Phyllis is mourned by her husband of 30 years, Phil; 3 sons, Michael Selikoff and his wife Nancy of Westport, CT, Richard Selikoff and his wife Margaret of Saratoga Springs, NY and Steven Selikoff and his wife Erica of Mukilteo, WA; stepson, Steven Herskowitz and his wife Robin of Austin, TX; stepdaughter, Suzan Herskowitz of Stephen City, VA; 4 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Lauren, Alec and Aidan; 2 sisters, Alice Platt of Haltom City, TX and Mary Werlick and her husband John of Lakewood, NJ; brother, Alexander Platt and his wife Nancy of Hyram, GA; other relatives and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.
