Newark: Pleasant Casteel, Jr., 85, went to be with our Lord on Friday, July 31, 2009 at his home.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 at the House of Prayer with Reverend Lewis Coomer officiating. Interment will follow service at Aurora Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Jeff Reed, Jeremy Reed, Brian Soper, Chris Johnson, Loyd Adair, Les Reed, Burton, and Roger Smith.
Pleasant was born October 23, 1923 in Dallas, Texas to Pleasant and Berth (Bullock) Casteel, Sr. He married Mary Shaddox on January 13, 1945 in Rockwall, Texas.
He served in the United States Navy and was a member of the House of Prayer in Newark.
Left behind to cherish his memory are is wife of 64 years, Mary Casteel; seven daughters, Joann Bergeaux and husband, Floyd of Louisiana; Fran Casteel of Newark; Janie Reed and husband, Les of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Wanda Castell of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Cathy Beaty and husband, Gary of Watauga, Bettie Adair and husband Loyd of Haltom City, Lois Ruth Smith and husband, Roger of Newark; two sons, Max Ray and David Casteel both of Newark; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pleasant is preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, three brothers and two grandchildren.
