Rabin was born on October 2, 1962 to Max and Bethel (Nieland) Smith in Sacramento, California. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Rabin was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Robin Smith.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Justin Smith of California, and Matthew Smith of Rhode Island; his daughter, Melissa Berrios of Ohio; his step-sons, Bradley Vaz of Decatur, and Dominick Vaz of Rhode Island; his step-daughters, Maria Vaz, and Elizabeth Vaz both of Rhode Island; his 16 grandchildren; and a host of friends.
