Ray "Big Ray" Cook, 74, of Paradise went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 29, 2008, at home.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday, First Baptist Church in Paradise. Burial: Cottondale Cemetery. Visitation: The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home. Rev. Matt Edwards will officiate, assisted by Robert Owensby. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Wilson, Mark Wilson, Marty Bush, Sam Cook, Jr., Bobby Cook, Jr., Kevin Cook, Sha Clayton, and Shawn Clayton.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church in Paradise.

Big Ray was born in Harlingen to Marvin and Urvel Cook. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a Mason. He married Patti Palmer Dec. 24, 1954, in Dallas. He retired from State Reserve Life Insurance Co. and was owner of Cook Printing.

He and Patti spent 45 years together until her passing on April 3, 2000, and had a reuniting in the early morning hours on Saturday, March 29, 2008. Others preceding him were his parents; brother, Bobby "Big Bobby" Cook Sr.; and sister, Dorothy Wilson.

Survivors: Those left to cherish the memories: Sons, Ray Cook Jr. and wife, Judy of Paradise, Larry Cook and wife, Debbie of Paradise; daughter, Melody Cheves and husband, Scott of Bridgeport; grandchildren, Kristen and husband, Justin, Kameron and fiancee, Billy, Monica, Trevor, Lauren and Kelsey; great-grandson, Hayden; brothers, Sam "Big Sam" Cook and wife, Linda of Paradise, Bill "Mr. Bill" Cook and wife, Carolyn of Cottondale; sisters, Lois Nedoit of Keeter and Betty Bush of Keeter; sister-in-law, Sondra Cook of Benbrook; nieces; nephews; cousins; a host of friends.
