Paradise ~ Raymond Owen Florence Sr., 91, a retired officer in the United States Marine Corps, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, August 23, 2017 in Paradise.
Funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial in West Bridgeport Cemetery. No set visitation.
Ray was born on November 14, 1925 to Ivy Owen and Viola Mildred (Stevens) Florence in Dill, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Margaret Reilly on July 17, 1946 in San Francisco, California. Ray graduated from University of Texas at Arlington where he majored in social work. In November of 1942 he joined the United States Marines Corps and proudly served his country for 32 years as Chief Warrant Officer. He fought and defended our country during WWII and the Vietnam war. Ray was a member of the Wise County Veterans Association and the Sons of Confederate Veterans of Wise County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Florence; his daughter, Margaret L. Florence; his brother, Donald C. Florence; and his sister, Carole Villaneuva.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Raymond Owen Florence Jr.; and his grandchildren, Lauren and Garrett Florence; other family members and a host of friends.
